About Me

I am currently reading for a PhD in Complexity Science at the Bristol Centre for Complexity Sciences, under the supervision of Tijl De Bie and John Shawe-Taylor. This is being undertaken at the University of Bristol.¬†My current interest¬†is the automatic extraction of musical chords from audio, although I’ve started looking into how chords can be applied to higher-level tasks such as mood detection and Hit Song Prediction More info on this can be found on the research section of this site.

I also have an interest in music in general and teach guitar in the Bristol area. I am looking for more students! Drop me an email if you’d like to arrange a free trial lesson. Get in touch at matt.mcvicar@bristol.ac.uk if you have any questions about my research. My current full CV can be downloaded here:

  2. Interested in free trial lesson. Have guitar need to learn how to play it. Have music experience c/o intense and relatively dull classical training on the piano to grade 6. More interested in contemporary styles and strumming, just for the kicks.

Look forward to hearing from you and wether or not you can teach in South Bristol at Chez moi.
